ACTIVITIES


2016-2017
  • Activities of the department started with felicitations to the meritorious student Ms Anjana Nambiar who secured admission in IISER, JAM qualified students and ‘A’ grade winners. Prizes were offered by Management, College and Department in a prestigious ceremony.
  • The regular assessment of core and complementary students was done through seminars, assignments and test papers.
  • Peer group teaching and Buddy group teaching activities under the supervision of faculty enhance the learning and teaching skills of students.
  • Entrance Classes for JAM, IISER and NET are regularly conducted for advance learners.
  • Interdepartmental quality cell was constituted to monitor the students in academic activities in all subjects.
  • Result analysis, identification of weak and advanced learners and other academic parameters were discussed in IDQC meeting.
  • Chemistry club activities of the Department began with the Fresher’s day celebrations.
  • To promote interaction with prominent Alumni a lecture series “THE ILLUSTRIOUS ALUMNUS” were conducted. The inaugural talk was given by Sri. Alwin George (Writer & Sub Editor, Malayala Manorama) on ‘Chemistry and Common Man’ on 1st September 2016.
  • The second talk by our Alumnus Dr. Cyril Augustine (Assistant Professor, S.B College) was a sharing of his experiences from ‘a village school to IIT Delhi’. His speech motivated the students.
  • An interdepartmental quiz competition was conducted on 16-11-16 and the prizes were distributed by our principal Dr.N.J Saleena.
  • National Science Day was celebrated on 28-2-17. Message of the Day was given by Prof. Thankamma Mathew, former teacher of our Department.
  • A competition on innovative science projects was organized separately for school and college students on 4-3-17.
  • Study tour was conducted to Mysore, Chikmagalur and Coorg
  • On January 26th students visited Devadhan Centre, an old age home.
  • Ayana pavithran of I DC Chemistry won second prize in the university level posture making as a part of ozone day celebrations.
  • Our research centre is being developed as one of the leading research centres for science research in Kerala. TG/DTA, DSC, Fume Hood, pH meter and Water purifier have been installed.
  • We could publish five papers in the international journals this year.
  • Anagha P and Aneena kumar participated in the science experimental competition organized by KTK foundation.
  • Sangeetha u k of IIDC presented a paper on “QUALITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION” in the National seminar organized by student IQAC.
  • The outreach activities of the department “LOVE PLASTIC” was recognized state level with an outstanding award by SEED (Student Empowerment for Environmental Development) under the enthusiastic guidance of our faculty Dr. Rosy Antony.
  • More than hundred Organ donation willingness forms were submitted in the concluding ceremony of our campaign.
  • World Environment Day was celebrated on 8th June 2016. To make awareness about the proper disposal of waste, pipe compost was installed in hundred houses near the college premises.
  • Cloth bags were also distributed to minimize the use of plastic.
  • Biogas plant in the canteen is supervised and maintained by the Department.
  • The scholarship constituted by the department ‘Alchemist’ distributed 18 books. It gave additional help for the students to participate curricular and extracurricular activities, treatment and higher studies
  • As per the decision taken by the Alumni Association held on 10-08-16 ,Golden Jubilee Activities of the department  was planned joining hands with the former teacher’s forum.  The inaugural function was held in the College Auditorium. Our Alumni Smt. Rosakutty K. C, Chairperson, Kerala Women Commission was the chief Guest. A grand farewell was given to Sunny, retiring non teaching staff. Cash prizes for the winners of innovative science project competition were also distributed.
  • PSTA meetings of I, II and III BSC classes were arranged on 6-10-16 to provide a platform for parents, staff and students to sit together to discuss academic and other matters. Feedback of the parents regarding syllabus, teaching, library and lab facilities were taken
  • Students are actively participating in NCC, NSS, Sports, Fine arts etc. Students help in the cleaning program to keep the Campus neat and tidy.
  • Vandana of II DC was selected to participate in a National camp held at Uduppi.  
2015-16
  • Activities of the Department for the year 2015-2016 started in the beginning of the academic year, I June 2015.
  • Shyla George took charge as the new H.O.D.
  • Felicitations to the twelve A grade winners and JAM qualified students was offered by Management, College and Department in a prestigious ceremony on 15-6-16.
  • Bridge course was conducted for the I DC students. Students were divided into groups based on Entry level test. Regular assessment of core and complementary students was done through seminars assignments and test papers.
  • Entrance Classes for JAM and IISER are regularly conducted for advance learners. It reflected in the performance of the Students.
  • Chemistry club activities of the Department began with the Fresher’s day celebrations on 19-8-15. Chemistry association was inaugurated by Dr. Mentalin Mathew, our Alumnus.
  • Onam celebrations and Onasadya conducted by Chemistry Club on 20-8-15.
  • Endowments constituted by Prof. T. K Joseph and 1977 batch Alumni were awarded.
  • Study tour was conducted to Mysore, Ooty and Kodaikanal
  • Manuscripts prepared by our students were released.
  • National Seminar on 9th and 10th September sponsored by UGC was inaugurated by Dr.Suresh Das.
  • Electro analyser, hot-air oven and hydrothermal bomb have been installed this year in our research department.
  • Nygil Thomas has been sanctioned a UGC funded minor project entitled “Electrochemical Investigation of Mercury (II) at Modified Carbon Paste Electrodes for the Development of Electrochemical Sensor”.
  • The outreach activities of the department “LOVE PLASTIC” was recognized state level with an outstanding award by SEED (Student Empowerment for Environmental Development) under the enthusiastic guidance of our faculty Dr. Rosy Antony.
  • College campus was cleaned by our students. In collaboration with Shuchithwa Mission and local panchayath, we arranged seminar on Freedom from waste and as an ongoing project our students collect solid waste from premises and supply pipe composts to nearby houses for disposing organic wastes.
  • Cloth bags were also distributed to minimize the use of plastic. Biogas plant in the canteen is supervised and maintained by the Department.
  • The executive committee of the Alumni Association met on 12-04-15 to discuss the activities of the alumni. A grand meeting was organized to bid farewell to Prof. A. J Jose in the College Auditorium on 13-5-15.
  • PSTA meetings of I, II and III BSC were arranged this year separately after the publication of end semester results to analyze the result and discuss academic and other matters. Students help in the cleaning program to keep the Campus neat and tidy
2014-2015
  • Activities of the Department for the year 2014-2015 started in the beginning of the academic year, 3 June 2014.
  • A.J Jose took over the charge of H.O.D.
  • Felicitations to the two A+, five A grade winners and students who qualified various reputed national institutes was offered by Management, College and Department in a prestigious ceremony on 14-6-14.
  • Sudheesh Mohan.K and Ms.Swathi V.C who secured university first and second position were specially honoured by the Department in a separate function.
  • Department honoured Ms. Swathi V. C who secured admission in integrated   D program of IISER.
  • Bridge course was conducted for the I DC students. Students were divided into groups based on Entry level test.
  • Regular assessment of core and complementary students was done through seminars assignments and test papers. Peer group teaching and Buddy group teaching enhance the teaching and learning skills of students. Entrance Classes for JAM and IISER are regularly conducted for advance learners. It reflected in the performance of the Students.
  • Chemistry club activities of the Department began with the Fresher’s day celebrations on 21-8-14. Chemistry association was inaugurated by Prof. Augustine Joseph.
  • Onam celebrations and Onasadya were conducted.
  • Endowments constituted by Prof.T.K Joseph and Alumni 1977 batch were awarded. Manuscripts prepared by our students were released in the function.
  • National Seminar “Towards a Greener and Cleaner Environment” sponsored by UGC was organized on 6th and 7th of October 2014.
  • “ANALYTICA” Workshop conducted at 07.07.14 for fresh teachers at the college and higher secondary schools.
  • Study tour was conducted to Ooty, Munnar and Ernakulam
  • The outreach activities of the department “LOVE PLASTIC” sponsored by SEED (Student Empowerment for Environmental Development) actively involved in the collection, sorting and cleaning of plastic waste.
  • Cloth bags were also distributed to minimize the use of plastic. Biogas plant in the canteen is supervised and maintained by the Department.
  • The executive committee of the Alumni Association met on 10-08-14 to discuss the activities of the alumni. The general meeting held on 22nd November 2014 decided to support the infrastructure development of the Department
  • PSTA meetings of I, II and III BSC were arranged separately. Staff, students and parents sat together and discussed academic and other matters. Feedback of the parents regarding syllabus, teaching, library and lab facilities were taken.
  • Students help in the cleaning program to keep the Campus neat and tidy.
  • A. J Jose, H.O.D of our Department retired on 31st March 2015 after a long period of meritorious service.
  • Mukundan, our Lab assistant retired from service this year. In honour of them a farewell meeting was organized.
2013-2014
  • Activities of the Department for the year 2013-2014 started in the beginning of the academic year, 6th June 2013.
  • M.C Mary took over charge as our new H.O.D.
  • Felicitations to the three A grade winners and students who qualified various reputed national institutes was offered by Management, College and Department in a prestigious ceremony on 14-7-13.
  • Our PG program started on 8-10-13.
  • Bridge course was conducted for the I DC students. Students were divided into groups based on Entry level test. Regular assessment of core and complementary students was done through seminars assignments and test papers.
  • Entrance Classes for JAM and IISER are regularly conducted for advance learners. It reflected in the performance of the Students.
  • Chemistry club activities of the Department began with the Fresher’s day celebrations on11-8-13.
  • Chemistry association under Ms. Shisina.S as secretary was inaugurated by Sri.Shibu P.V, Assistant Professor, Govt.Brennen College and our Alumni.
  • Endowments constituted by Prof.T.K Joseph and 1977 Alumni batch were awarded.
  • In accordance with the golden jubilee celebrations of our College, we took part in the exhibition “IMPRINTS” conducted from September 16 to 21.
  • National Seminar “Recent Trends in Chemical Sciences” sponsored by KSCSTE was organized on 23rd March   
  • A UGC sponsored minor project entitled “An Attempt to improve the Fuel resistance of Natural Rubber Using EVA waste” has been sanctioned to Dr.Shyla George.
  • Cloth bags were also distributed to minimize the use of plastic. Biogas plant in the canteen is supervised and maintained by the Department.
  • The executive committee of the Alumni Association met on 9-08-13 to discuss the activities of the alumni. The general meeting held on 22nd March 2013 bid farewell to our beloved H.O.D Dr. M.C Mary.
  • PSTA meetings of I, II and III BSC were arranged separately. Staff, students and parents sat together and discussed academic and other matters. Feedback of the parents regarding syllabus, teaching, library and lab facilities were taken.
  • M.C Mary, H.O.D of our Department retired on 31st March 2015 after a long period of meritorious service. Smt.Vimala, our Lab assistant also retired from service this year. In honour of them a farewell meeting was organized by the Department.
2012-2013
  • Activities of the Department for the year 2012-2013 started in the beginning of the academic year, 5th June 2012.
  • Felicitations to the three A grade winners and students who qualified various reputed national institutes was offered by Management, College and Department in a prestigious ceremony on 14-7-13.
  • Bridge course was conducted for the I DC students. Students were divided into groups based on Entry level test. Regular assessment of core and complementary students was done through seminars assignments and test papers.

  • Endowments constituted by Prof.T.K Joseph and 1977 Alumni batch were awarded
  • Our research centre has been inaugurated by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Principal, N.S.S College, Mattannur.
  • We have an ongoing minor research project ‘Environmental status of Thalassery estuary’ by Dr. Rosy Antony funded by U.G.C.
  • As part of environmental awareness program we supplied steel glasses for every function in the college. Cloth carry bags are distributed to all students.
  • Biogas plant in the canteen is supervised and maintained by the Department.
  • Students actively involved in the palliative care program.
  • A website of Chemistry Alumni Association (CAAN) was launched this year. A charity fund was instituted by Alumni and an Yearly meeting on every” Pooja Holidays was planned.  1971-74 batches’ get-together was held in February 2012. .
  • PSTA meetings of I, II and III BSC were arranged separately. Staff, students and parents sat together and discussed academic and other matters.
  • Augustine Joseph, H.O.D of our Department and Prof. K.I Valsan retired from service on 31st March 2013 after a long period of meritorious service. They have been given a farewell by the Department.
2011-2012

  • Felicitations to the four A grade winners a was offered by Management, College and Department in a prestigious ceremony on 12-7-11.
