Established in 1964 from the inception of the college, the Department of English reached a milestone with the introduction of B. A. English in the year 1993

In 1964, along with the inception of Nirmalagiri College, Hindi Department also come into existence.

The department of history was started functioning in the Nirmalagiri College in 1964, the year of the beginning of the Institution.

The department of Malayalam was established together with the starting of the college in 1964.

Political Science
Department of political science started in 1964. The department offers 4 subsidiery papers for B.A.

Botany
The Botany department began functioning in the college right from the founding of the college in the year 1964 and offered U G course from 1980 onwards.

Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry came into existence with the establishment of the college in 1964. The Department offers B. Sc (core and complementary), MSc and PhD programs.

The department of Home Science had its inception along with the college itself (1964).

The Department of Mathematics, one of the oldest departments of Nirmalagiri College has been functioning since 1964.

The Department of Physics was started in the year 1964. It was upgraded to a PG department in 1999.

Department of statistics conducts complementary courses for Mathematics (major) and Economics (major) students.

The Department of Zoology started functioning in 1964 with classes for the erstwhile pre-degree biology students. The B.Sc. Zoology course started in 1967.

The three-year regular degree in Commerce (B Com) was started at Nirmalagiri College in 2013.

The department of physical Education started functioning on 1964. The college, over since the commencement of the department paid much attention in the systematic development of the physical potential of the students in various facets like athletics, games, body building etc.
